"...one has a strange paradoxical sense of motion while remaining perfectly still, as if the bed was floating on the surface of a lake"
Loved this line, Robert! I've also been interested in exploring this "floating" sensation you feel when half awake and half sick in writing, and I think you've hit the nail on the head with this description. :)
I read this while stuck in my bedroom in the early stages of some viral illness. I don't know why but your description, being so spot on, was comforting. I feel less isolated. Thank you!
Some exceptional phrases in there Robert, I particularly like "prehistoric mien" and the mellifulous list of tropical plants.
BTW since I switched to exclusively reading ebooks filched for my tablet I never have the problem of 500 page book fatigue. Sometimes the retreat from physicality to digitalisation has its benefits...
I might also add that the formation of this prose style is absolutely beautiful. :)
Thank you.
Christ this was good writing. I love reading something that puts me in the zone and inspires me to bloody get back to work!
That is quite a compliment.

And welcome to Substack!
Thank you.

I love listening to audiobooks but at the same time I find there's nothing like a nice thick ink and paper book.
Good job Robert. Kinda makes me wanna be sick. :)
Very atmospheric writing, Robert. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
That's quite a compliment, thank you.
I'm really not sure what the sequel or next chapter would be.
